7th Cavalry Unit on set of Son of The Morning Star |
"Son of the Morning Star was a made for TV movie about the Battle of the Little Big Horn which was filmed in Montana. The first scene I was in was Custer's ride out of Ft. Abraham Lincoln heading west to find the Sioux. My horse gave me a head butt to my face -- i.e.. his head connected with my face -- the horse won. I was hauled off in an ambulance and had a nice shiner for several weeks after that which can be seen in some of the later photos. All of these pictures are of the ride approaching the Indian encampment at the Little Big Horn. I was part of Custer's ride up to the village and then Reno's attack and retreat. I think the pictures are pretty much self explanatory. At the time I was a member of the 7th Illinois Cavalry which was one of the major reenactment groups to be a part of the movie. Cavalry troopers were always assigned to groups of four and the picture included was the group of four I was with."
